Implementing the 2016 ELA Standards with a Science Lens
This training was designed to help science teachers understand how the 2016 ELA Standards could be used to build disciplinary literacy in science. It was originally designed as a 75- minute breakout session for the 2017 ASTA Conference. It was later expanded into a 2-hour workshop and also adapted for a 1-hour webinar delivery. During this training, learners are presented new information, read documents, and engage in small group and facilitated discussions.
Educators learned how to use the Disciplinary Literacy in Science documents to support reading, writing, speaking, and listening within a science lesson.

I was responsible for the design, development and delivery of the initial presentation and subsequent webinars and workshops. I conducted the needs analysis to support the creation of the Disciplinary Literacy in Science documents and all subsequent evaluations. I was a major contributor to the development of the Disciplinary Literacy in Science documents; content specialists under my supervision also contributed to the development of these documents.
